Brazilian Dance Workout Review

Weekend: We went camping this weekend with another couple. It was fun though we had some equipment malfunctions. Ugh. Each couple rode motorcycles up there and I got a lot of sun- not burnt but close. I did use the drive time to study my flashcards for my upcoming ACE Group Fitness Instructor exam. I am SO glad I did- I was really feeling like I wasnt retaining anything from the textbook but felt better after studying the cards.

Anyhoo- back to camping. We start setting up camp and discover that our new tent is a bit too small for our new air mattress. SO DH insists on going to the store & buying another new tent. So we do that set it up and of course, its missing a piece and doesnt properly set up. We rig it and move on (irritated) only to wake up in the middle of the night with a FLAT air mattress. UGH. Three pieces of NEW equipment that have failed us. So we end up getting up extra early the next morning since were sleeping on the ground. Its FREEZING out. So I go to put on some hot water on our burner (we ran out of charcoal so we were going to cook breakfast on the burner) only to discover we have run out of butane. DOUBLE UGH. So we pack up camp with freezing fingers and head home. Despite it all it was fun...lol. So we go to Denny's the only thing on the route home, and they tell us 25 minute wait to get seated. LOL so I end up at Starbucks with a vegi wrap and skinny mocha.....

Today's Review: Brazilian Dance Workout
Vanessa Isaac, 2005

This is a 60 minute Brazilian dance workout led by Vanessa in an outdoor setting, lots of lovely greenery in the background. Vanessa and a group of background exercisers workout barefoot with a live drum circle. You wont need any equipment for this workout. The dvd offers a percussion mix, and the workout is divided into two segments that are put together at the end for a nice Brazilian dance routine.

The moves are shown/ done at a normal pace, then Vanessa breaks them down at 1/2 time so you can learn the move and then you repeat at the normal pace. You learn a dance move, then add on another & repeat until you are performing an entire dance routine! Dance moves include: chest pops, box step, dancy double side step w/ over & around arms, up & back steps, shimmy, kick ball change, and other dance moves.

I would rate this workout an intermediate in terms of choreography & low intermediate in terms of aerobic intensity. Vanessa does a great job of breaking down the moves but keeping the workout moving along. The pace is fast so you will raise your heartrate more so than other dance workouts I have done. I like Vanessa as a lead and would recommend this w/o to those that like dance and for a lighter day. I received this dvd to review.

Today's Tip: Okra For Health
I LOVE okra- add some hot sauce, yum yum! Cone-shaped okra has been dubbed “ladies fingers” and has weird seeds inside. But don’t knock ‘em until you try ‘em, because the vegetable can help your digestion and colon due to its lubricating mucilage, Dorlandt says. Read more on Shape.

Arizona Sports Cake Order & Lite Krab Cesar Salad Recipe

Then she realized it was also her puppies bday so she asked for a simple cupcake for doggy. I couldnt resist - so I made these for her puppy.

Today's Recipe:Lite Krab Cesar Salad
I have been addicted to this quick, easy, and lite lunch for about a month now. LOL. I was doing chicken cesar salads but this is easier, cheaper, and has less fat. If you are a fan of Krab (fake crab) this is for you!
Ingredients:
~3 cups romaine lettuce
~4-5 oz Krab
~Newman's Own Light Fantastic Cheese Fantastico salad dressing
~Shredded Parmesan cheese
*top romaine with krab, and a sprinkling of parmesan cheese (not that crappy grated powder), then drizzle with dressing. This dressing only has 1.5 grams of fat & 25 calories per 2 TBSP serving!

Bosses Day Cupcakes & Piloxing Express Toning Review

Bosses Day Cake Order: got this order from a company for their three bosses. One a camper, one a golfer, and one a horse lover. All are carrot cake with white chocolate cream frosting. The jumbo cupcakes also have vanilla mousse filling. All decorations are fondant/ gumpaste. I think Im going to try modeling chocolate soon. Probably tastier than fondant, probably cheaper too lol....

I had FOUR cake orders last week! WOW! Thats way more than Ive ever had in one week before. Good news though :) I have an upcoming Halloween cake order that will be fun too.

Today's Review: Piloxing Express Toning
Viveca Jensen, 2011 **** (4 of 5 stars)

Viveca leads this 56 minute toning workout in a cute grey gym with purple accents. She works out with 2 background exercisers. You will need optional weighted gloves (light dumbbells would also work) for the upper body segment. This dvd includes Arms, Butt & Thighs, and Abs section. You can play all or skip to the next section with your remote.

Arms: The addition of weighted gloves and/or light hand weights really makes this a tough but fun upper body workout. Exercises include: bicep curl variations, long arm wrist flexion, tri kickbacks, long arm tri work, back fly, 1 arm side tri pushups, and elevator planks. Viveca includes tempo changes to keep your muscles guessing.

Butt & Thighs: This is a floor work section- I started with ankle weights & ended up taking them off as my buns & thighs were on fire! Exercises include: donkey kick variations including side kicks, crossovers, extensions, and long leg kicks. Bridge work including: bridge squeezes, butterfly, and single leg bridge variations.

Abs: This is a floor section that really hits the core. Exercises include: V sit w/ arm pump, V drops, V punch & twists, full V sit w/ legs extended, crunch variations, long leg bicycle, wide leg scissor crunches, plank, plank knee pull and a  side knee pull plank.

I would rate this is a high intermediate workout as my lower body was BURNING by the end! I found this dvd to be unique and fun and I think I’ll be feeling it tomorrow. Viveca has a great energy and her cuing and form pointers are fantastic. She does a great job of including unique twists on tried & true toning exercises- love that little to no equipment is required. Received this dvd to review.

This is a flowing pilates/ yoga vinyassa routine that adds in light dumbbell strength moves to intensify your workout. The dvd contains five 10 minute workouts and a bonus stretch segment. Fred & Elisabeth each lead some of the workout segments. They workout with 3 background exercisers, 1 providing modifications in a nice open studio.You will only need light dumbbells for these workouts. You can play all or select a workout from the main menu. 


Power Fusion: Elisabeth adds strength work into this flowing vinyassa routine. Exercises include cat/cow, down dog, yoga stretches, side plank adding hip drops and dumbbell raises.


Strength Flow: Fred adds strength work into this flowing vinyassa routine. Exercises include: pushups, plank, up & down dog, weighted arm circles, weighted ab twists, warrior & overhead tricep press, & weighted twisted chair.


Power Flow: Elisabeth leads this steady pace vinyasa routine that adds upper body strength exercises while holding various warrior poses. Other exercises include: pushups, up & down dog, & triangle. 


Strength & Balance: Elisabeth leads this strength focused workout and adds in some great balance challenges to the work. Exercises include: pliet & overhead press, side lunge -upright row & lat pull- front raise, tree pose & bicep curls, balance stick & row, and a seated hip & low back stretch.


Abs & Glutes: Fred leads this section and includes a lot of tough ab work. You are contracting your abs for almost the duration! Exercises include: c curve adding a twist, leg drops, yoga bike, and a unique donkey kick series with a dumbbell behind your knee.


Bonus Stretch: Fred & Elisabeth work out together in this segment (no b/g'ers). They add light dumbbells to enhance the yoga & athletic style stretches. 


Both Fred & Elisabeth provide excellent cuing & form pointers in these segments. These are great workouts for those that like pilates & yoga but want to up the intensity a bit with hand weights. As with all Exhale workouts- they include a lot of effective and unique exercises that work the muscles without over taxing them. I rate these intermediate routines- and the Abs & Glutes section a high intermediate or low advanced. I received this dvd to review.

Cake Order: Got this order from a co-worker for her daughters 18th bday. The daughter (obviously) loves purple and Pokeman. So purple velvet cake, purple cream cheese frosting & filling, fondant Pikachu and lightening bolt thingys.....Wouldnt have been my color combo choices but overall I think it turned out very nicely and I am happy with it.
