JB Bern's Cardio Karate Review: Cardio Intense with Amy Bento Ross

Cardio Karate is JB Berns latest set! I LOVE LOVE LOVE his URX-MT set so I am super excited for the opportunity to try this set! I did one of Amy's first, since she is a favorite and was not disappointed! Very unique and lots of functional exercises that hit the core. Can not wait to dive in to the rest! You can see all my reviews by clicking the "Cardio Karate" tab above. Cardio Karate is available on the Cardio Karate website and on Collage Video.

The Cardio Karate kit contains twelve 60 minute dvds and TWO bonus dvds featuring fitness favorites JB Berns, Amy Bento Ross, Gay Gasper, Greg Sims, Gregg Cook, and Keli Roberts. JB comes from a martial arts background making this set even more desirable. The dvds are packaged wonderfully in a book format that tightly keeps all the discs neatly & securely in place, and it looks great! The set also contains a very nice meal plan and dvd description book along with a full color workout calendar. Everything you need to get yourself into shape. Today's Review: Cardio Karate Cardio Intense
Amy Bento Ross, 2011 **** (4 of 5 stars)

Amy leads this 63 minute cardio workout in a martial arts studio with 2 b/g exercisers. You will only need your UR & light sand weights for a few of the final ab exercises. The exercises are split into 4 pods (groups) of exercises which you learn and repeat and then are strung together at the end for a full cardio karate workout. Nice Asian-esque music.

After a 9 min warmup, exercises include: hammer strike, knife strike, elbow strike, body toss, plyo horse stance hops, elbow strikes, low slides, hi block, around the world knee strike hops, side knee blocks, front & back kicks, cat stance hops- add a kick, palm strikes, leg sweeps w/ a side hammer strike, and concludes with a 13 min ab section & a stretch. The unique ab work includes: sand weight strikes, plank dives w/ a kick, crunch & hip hikes, plank reach around & kick.

I rate this an intermediate workout but you can easily modify up or down to suit your needs. I added weighted gloves & some more hops & got a good workout. Amy is, as always, a fantastic instructor-great cuing & form pointers. This dvd has a lot of unique exercises. Some of the exercises are performed at a fairly slow pace & then there are some plyo type exercises, so it is a good variety of intensity levels. There is a countdown bar that has occasional tips & reminders along side it. Love the functional work and felt my core working throughout. I received this dvd to review.

Cake Orders & Vacation: I had these three cake orders all for the day we were leaving for vacation. So I woke up early finished everything & DH & I went and delivered them all before we headed out. Cardinals Helmet & Jersey cakes, Princess 1st bday, and Zombie Graveyard. We went on our first cruise! We drove to CA then ported from Long Beach, cruised to Catalina Island and then Ensenada Mexico. It was Mon PM to Fri AM. It was wonderful- pics to come! We will def go on another cruise again!

Today's Tip: Choose Greek Yogurt

Everyone thinks of yogurt as a pretty healthy snack choice, but all yogurts are not created equal, say the creators of the "Supreme 90 Day" system John Dull and Michele Collier. In fact, many yogurts—including low-fat varieties—are loaded with sugar. "A better choice is Greek-style yogurt," they say. "They have more protein per serving and very little sugar. Try adding fresh fruit for an added treat! Read more on Shape
